It is a fun exhibition that All the kaijues and aliens that fought against Ultraman revived with the Japanese ancient style. There are Kemur and Ragon which I acted. Please visit and take a look.

All the nostalgic Ultra Kaijues revied as all kinds of spirits and damons residing in all nature.
This is old, but also new. The unique way of the arrangement made me smile.

It's an experiment to construct the essence of "Mononoke" from a new angle while liberating Ultra Kaiju from preconceived notion associated around this.
The work brows my mind, like "Ah, this is what Kaiju is". I was quite facinated by the thoughtful quality of the touch, concept, materials of the work!

When I saw the invitation to this "Ultra Kaijyu Mononoke Emaki" exhibition, I thought of the "Kyosai Hyakki Gadan(significance: A collection of Yokai paintings by Kyosai)" by Kawanabe Kyosai, an ukiyoe artist who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period. It is a humorous depiction of monsters, demons, and artifact spirit marching in a unique interpretation of the "Hyakki Yagyo Emaki," which has been handed down by many painters since the Muromachi period, by the popular painter, Kyosai, in his later years.
However, what surprised me when I saw the exhibition was the fact that the monsters depicted were more natural than I had imagined, as if they had been drawn hundreds of years ago. It's hard to believe that they were drawn in the 21st century (that's a compliment).
Of course, the designer Toru Narita and the monster sculptor Ryosaku Takayama were responsible for creating these originals, but I was also impressed by the skill of the artist Noriaki Tanimura, who brilliantly adapted them and depicted them as picture scrolls, a fusion of the ancient Japanese tradition and the modern Kaiju. I never get tired of looking at a good picture, no matter how many times I see it. Also, no matter how good the printing technology is, there is nothing better than the original. It is truly a feast for the eyes.

The monsters of "Ultra Q" and "Ultraman" that transcended the existing concept of living creatures to create a unique Japanese image of monsters in terms of design, art of "Choju-Giga" (Bird and beast caricature) that makes us feel as if the expression of manga is the sense Japanese possess from ancient time, both concepts are fused into "Ultra Kaiju Mononoke Emaki". As a manga artist as well as a monster designer, I feel a sense of sympathy and admiration for the thoroughness of the materials used in the art. I could feel the historical touch of the actual figures more than that can be expressed in the form, and it gave me a sense that the Ultra monsters, now celebrating their 55th anniversary, have come closer to their old historical existence, and I could even think about the future that they will have even more history. Also, as a lover of soft vinyl, the limited edition soft vinyl figures are very appealing.
